Info: Back by popular demand, the Alabama Dance Theatre celebrating 25 years will present “The Little Mermaid & more!” Friday, March 2nd through Sunday, March 4th at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. The performance will feature the audience favorite “The Little Mermaid” choreographed by ADT’s Resident Choreographer, Sara Sanford.
“The Little Mermaid” is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairytale about a mermaid willing to give up her life as a mermaid in order to fine true love and happiness and gain a human soul. Wanting a life on land she is rebuked by her father and turns to the conniving sea witch who demands a heavy sacrifice. In return the Little Mermaid must exchange her beautiful voice for human legs with which she can fulfill her dreams.
The performance will also have two new works by resident choreographer Sara Sanford, Ballet Master Foye DuBose, and Jenny Letner that will be adjudicated for a performance in Montreal at the 2012 National Festival of Regional Dance America. Also returning to the stage is the delightful ballet “Full Moon” choreographed by the late Leslie Norton. It depicts three young girls restless and unable to sleep during the night and their hilarious antics.
ADT’s spring concert is sponsored by Aronov Realty, Regions Bank, Cumulus Broadcasting, Chick-fil-A Midtown, Montgomery Advertiser, the City of Montgomery, the Montgomery County Commission, and funded in part by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Performances are Friday, March 2nd at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 4th at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale Monday, February 13th and and range in price from $15 to $25. Reserved and general admission tickets are available at the Armory Learning Arts Center by calling the ADT Ticket line at 334-241-2800.
After the children’s matinee on Saturday, March 3rd, children are invited to come on stage and meet “The Little Mermaid” and other characters for $5.00.
