Bibb County Extension Hosts Regional Fruit Production Workshop
The arrival of fall and its cooler weather, colorful foliage and bountiful harvests provides an excellent opportunity to plan and prepare to have trees, vegetables and fruit next year and/or beyond.
With that opportunity in mind, the Bibb County Extension Office is hosting a regional Fruit Production Workshop that offers valuable expertise from an Extension plant disease specialist and both of Bibb County’s Regional Extension Agents in horticulture.
This Fruit Production Workshop is designed for anyone growing fruits for sale, or for the serious home gardener. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 9am-12pm, at the Bibb County Board of Education’s Central Office at 721 Walnut Street in Centreville.
The program is free, and lunch will be provided immediately following the program, but please call the Bibb County Extension Office at 205-926-4310 and register by 3pm on Monday, October 14, as space is limited.
Presenters will include Dr. Jim Jacobi, Extension Plant Pathologist/Diagnostician from the Hanna Center at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Nelson Wynn, Regional Extension Agent for Home Grounds, Gardens and Pests, and Gary Gray, Regional Extension Agent for Commercial Horticulture.
Wynn will cover the topics of soil sampling and understanding soil sample reports, and he will also be available immediately after the program to answer audience questions on just about any horticultural topic, including backyard composting. Jacobi will provide information about fruit diseases, and Gray will share insights on pruning and fruit production in general.
Feel free to call the Bibb County Extension Office at 205-926-4310 if there are questions, or additional information is needed. You can also log onto www.aces.edu/bibb or find the office on Facebook!
